Supplement to the History of All Animals. 145
ON THE SLOTH AND THE LAZY ANIMAL
We have already discussed the names, nature, behavior, and diet of this animal at length in our *History of Quadrupeds with Digits*. It remains now for us to include the observations of Paré and provide an illustration for the reader to examine, as one was not available at the time of that earlier work.
Paré states that this animal is called the "Haut." It is the size of a monkey, with a head and face resembling those of a child. When captured, it groans and heaves sighs from the depths of its chest, just like a person in distress and pain; its feet are equipped with three claws,
Sloth, or the "Haut," and the Lazy Animal.
