History of Monsters. 551

II. A four-legged chick.

We have also observed many monstrous and four-legged creatures of this kind in our own time. For instance, in Illustration III, we present a four-legged rooster; its underside, extending as far as the belly, was chestnut in color, while its upper side, reaching to the rump, was yellow interspersed with chestnut feathers.

The wings were white with green flight feathers. From the back, near the tail, very long chestnut feathers hung down. The tail was green and black, and the bird possessed a double comb that was barely serrated. It had four legs: the front two were yellow and perfectly formed, as is typical for such animals, while the rear two were malformed and pale, just as they are depicted in Illustration III alongside the *Aegilops* plant.
