I. Five-footed rooster.
the birth of the Virgin in the year 125, according to the opinion of Lycosthenes, a domestic rooster with five feet was observed at Caere, just as it is depicted in Illustration I.
Polydore Vergil recorded in his *History of England* that during the reign of Henry I, among other prodigies that appeared, a four-footed rooster was born.
Lycosthenes also reported that this occurred in the year 1010. He further adds that in the year of our Lord 1055, near the end of the reign of Henry III, Emperor of the Romans, a hen produced a chick endowed with four feet, as shown in Illustration II.
