IX. A winged four-handed monster with a large-eared human head.

Having noted these matters in passing and returning to our chronological sequence, we come to the year 1577. On the twelfth of February, near the banks of the Danube by Buda in Hungary, a winged *tetrachiron*—that is, a four-handed monster—was sighted, causing great distress to the local inhabitants. It featured a human face and was equipped with ears like those of a donkey. Its upper body was smooth like a man’s, while its lower parts were quite hairy, resembling those of an ox. We might, therefore, quite rightly name this monster by quoting Ovid
