History of Monsters. 345

...finally, several other monstrous figures can be observed on this tablet belonging to Torquato Bembo. I have chosen to include them in this history so that the reader might find everything they could possibly desire. One bird seen there resembles a goose; near its head, at the base of its neck, it has two long curls. Near the start of its belly, a small pouch or crop is visible, much like that of a pelican, and a crescent moon sits above its head, just as the illustration shows.

Goose-like Bird

Furthermore, the same tablet displays an image of another bird with wings so large that they exceed the size of its entire body; one of these wings hangs down toward its feet. It has a white breast dappled with black spots and a very small beak—a striking feature, as it is quite out of proportion with the size of the wings. Additionally, no eyes are visible on the bird’s head, and it is shown resting its feet upon a circle, as can be seen in the accompanying picture
