# ON INDIAN WILD BOARS

The indigenous people call this mountain beast the *Coyametl*, while others refer to it as the *Quapicotl*, *Faiassou*, *Saynum*, or *Zainus*. It bears a resemblance to our local wild boar, though it is smaller and more strangely formed. It possesses a navel-like opening on its back, situated near the kidneys, which releases a watery fluid when pressed. Experts suggest, however, that this is not a true navel, but rather a vestigial form of one. Consequently, historians of the Americas report that these boars have a hole in their backs, as is visible in the illustration.

American Pig, or Zainus.
