The ninth unnatural birth

The tenth unnatural birth

In the ninth case, it often happens that the fetus sometimes falls forward onto its chest, with its feet and hands turned away and joined together behind its back; this position is considered the most dangerous of all. Therefore, a diligent midwife, with her hands well-lubricated, should insert her hand and search for the infant’s arms. She must grasp and hold them, exerting every effort to first guide the head back toward the birth canal, then move the infant’s hands aside and direct them toward its sides.

However, if this operation proves unsuccessful, it is better to lead the mother back to her bed so that, in the meantime, the fetus might shift into a more favorable position.

The tenth unnatural form occurs when the fetus attempts to emerge with its feet and hands all joined together. In this situation, the midwife must use all her strength and effort to push the feet and hands back for a moment and immediately grasp the head, so that she can, as much as possible, guide the fetus toward an easy delivery. This is illustrated in the figures provided here.
