History of Monsters. 19
from the category of wild men we should not separate the Cinnaminian people, who are a truly wondrous sight due to their long, flowing beards and the hair covering their entire bodies.
Their barbarian neighbors specifically refer to them as "wild men." For their own protection, they raise large packs of dogs, because every year between the summer and winter solstices, countless Indian oxen continually invade their homeland. The reason for this remains uncertain: perhaps these oxen are fleeing other wild beasts, or they are driven by men, or perhaps they flee to the Cinnaminian territory due to a lack of fodder elsewhere.
Consequently, these people—having realized that their own strength was insufficient to withstand the onslaught of such oxen—protect themselves by breeding a multitude of dogs. Using these dogs, they also capture many of the oxen through hunting; some they eat fresh, while others they preserve with salt for future use. Furthermore, they consume countless other types of animals caught by their dogs. We have provided illustrations of these people here, showing both a male and a female.
